Meet ‘The Syms’

PNH is a rare, life-threatening disease, and no two patients present in quite the same way. Early diagnosis is critical, yet often challenging, as there are nine key signs and symptoms that can appear in different combinations. Most patients will present with only two or three symptoms, making it difficult for physicians to recognise the condition and connect the dots to a PNH diagnosis.

To help raise awareness of these symptoms, we created The Syms — a family of nine unique characters, each representing one of the key signs of PNH. Designed to make complex clinical information more memorable and engaging, the characters helped healthcare professionals better understand the diverse ways PNH can present, reinforcing the importance of recognising symptoms early and referring patients to specialist treatment centres.
